Runners Delivery
We built the full Runners Delivery ecosystem — a food ordering and delivery mobile app with integrated restaurant management, real-time rider tracking, dispatch management, and a seamless customer ordering experience.
Ghana's food delivery market was growing fast, but fragmented — most restaurants had no digital ordering capability, riders were managed through informal WhatsApp groups, and customers had no reliable way to track their orders in real time.
We built the entire Runners Delivery ecosystem from the ground up: a customer ordering app, restaurant management dashboard, dispatch coordinator view, and rider interface — all connected in real time via a single backend.
How we built it
Product Discovery
Ran workshops with restaurant owners, delivery riders, and end customers in Accra to map the full order lifecycle. Identified the critical moments: order placement, kitchen confirmation, rider assignment, and last-mile tracking.
System Architecture
Designed a microservices backend in Node.js with separate services for orders, restaurants, riders, and notifications. Firebase Realtime Database powers the live tracking layer with sub-second location updates.
Customer App
Built in React Native for iOS and Android. Key flows: restaurant discovery, menu browsing, basket management, checkout with mobile money integration, and real-time order tracking with a live rider map.
Restaurant Dashboard
Built a web-based restaurant management interface: menu and pricing management, incoming order notifications with accept/reject controls, preparation time estimates, and order history analytics.
Dispatch & Rider Apps
Built a dispatch dashboard for coordinators to assign orders to available riders and monitor the fleet in real time. Rider app includes job notifications, navigation integration, delivery confirmation, and daily earnings summary.
Runners Delivery launched across Accra with a complete, production-ready ecosystem connecting customers, restaurants, and riders on a single platform. Real-time tracking and integrated dispatch dramatically reduced failed deliveries and rider idle time.
Runners gave us the tools to run a proper delivery operation. The restaurant dashboard alone changed how we manage our kitchen.
